Wow, what a long journey this has been. Since our last update, Matt and I have had numerous sessions to work on our game, and after giving our final presentation last week, we have what we are gonna leave as our final product. Download link is below for anyone wondering. Sorry if its a bit unpolished, but we were a bit crunched for time in finally finishing it. Thank you everyone who came to our final presentation, or who has been following us for any time at all on here. Hopefully I'll get to make another website like this in the future though, because game design is awesome! Anyways, here is the link, enjoy! https://mega.nz/#!TkMGHYTZ!U5NWgpj7i57MjJhWQn6XJ6dpSV2jimlMqOhNQ8ppT9U Here's a video preview of the game as well:

Finally I think I can say that I'm done with the prototype for our game! While this doesn't mean that I have all the final features done, it does mean that I have enough of a base game to be able to start work on something of a final product. This means that this upcoming week, I will be discussing with Matt final plot points, aesthetic, map layout, and character designs. This means that actual visual progress might stall for a week, but it also means that we can dive straight into our work once we are done with design choices. Below is a screenshot of the prototype, still using temp textures / UI. I am extremely excited to dive into the long road of programming ahead, and hopefully we don't run into any huge speed bumps.
Also, for all those who care, I am also going to be putting up final code for the project on GitHub. The link for it will be put in my next blog post. Here is a screenshot of a few things I have been working on, Including better attacks, NPCs, and constraining movement of NPCs. While Ryan and I are still pumping out a finalized script/ storyboard for the game, not much work can be done on the art. Because of this, I've been spending a lot of time working on the music. I'm finally getting to a point where I'm confident in my music making abilities. The picture above is a screenshot of my work in FL studio, where I finally seem to have a melody I can stick with and develop to be used throughout the game. I knew I had written something good when I got it stuck in my head and I was humming it while walking between classes. In the next two weeks Ryan and I are confident we'll be able to finalize our story, and then I'll be able to start working on locations, characters, and item art. My other challenge will be developing my idea for a song into a fully fledged score, but I look forward to making this happen. New update coming in two weeks!
For the past few weeks I have been working on finishing a "prototype" for our game. I use the term prototype loosely because the majority of the stuff we have in the prototype will be re-skinned and used in the final game. This makes it so I don't have to code a lot of basic features such as weapon systems, level switching, and player movement. In terms of things I have actually done these past few weeks, I have worked on level swapping, enemies / enemy AI, and weapon systems. I dont have too much to show this week besides some boring code, so here is a picture of a house I made in Tiled. I'm not too sure what will be done in 2 weeks time, but I hope to finish some UI things such as health, and I hope to implement animations for attacks. I also want to explore an interaction mechanic.
Hello, Matt checking in. These first two weeks have been a lot of learning and ideating. First of all, I was able to make this awesome art that you see here on our website. I'm really proud of it, and other than the fact that Weebly compresses its images and makes them all blurry, I think it looks really nice. I've also been spending a lot of time researching and learning music production techniques. FL Studio is a program for making music that I'll be spending a lot of time in so I can make the music for our game, but right now I've just been spending several hours trying to learn the basics of the software. I'm happy with what I've been able to learn in 2 weeks. Writing melodies isn't really easy, but I am getting better at expressing my thoughts through music- something I am already quite proficient at when it comes to visual art. I look forward to getting back to making pixel art, but right now my time is better spent learning since I don't yet know exactly what I need to be drawing. Anyways, soon I hope to be getting close to having a finished song, but I definitely want to have a melody finished that I can apply thematically throughout the game, in multiple songs.
Hello, Ryan here! Welcome to my first blog update, which will luckily be pretty brief and to the point. Matt will be doing a separate blog post for what he has been working on, so look out for that. Luckily Matt and I haven't run into any problems and everything so far has been going pretty smoothly.
First off, what did I do this past 2 weeks:
